Welcome back for the 2009-2010 school year in Drama and Speech! This year the combined classes of fifth and sixth grades will be performing a Christmas musical, "Psalty's Christmas Calamity". Students are already working on the music for the play under the direction of Mrs. Wantiez. The children will begin auditioning for parts very soon. There are both singing and speaking parts. As always, Mrs. Proctor will be helping us create our props. Keep your December calendars open for this event (TBA very soon).
The combined class of seventh and eighth graders are busy learning about the various types of Figurative Speech. This week we focused on "assonance", the use of repeated vowel sounds. The students are writing and illustrating booklets demonstrating this concept to read to the Kindergarten classes on Wednesday.
Both combined fifth and sixth grade classes are also learning about the different types of drama. This week students learned about melodrama and farce. Groups of students chose either melodrama or farce and wrote short skits to perform (in costume) on Friday.
